Resistance Training Specialist®
This section is primarily designed as a help to exercise trainers and rehab professionals – but the principles are worth knowing by everyone interested in improving their health.
In 1989, after years investigative research and biomechanical analysis, RTS® founder Tom Purvis was asked by Dr. Bob Goldman, founder of the National Academy of Sports Medicine, to do a presentation at the inaugural NASM Personal Training Certification.
Subsequently Tom was placed in charge of creating and evolving not only the biomechanics division of the program, but also the design and implementation of the hands-on, practical educational and examination portions.
This was the first national presentation of the unique information and perspectives that were to become The Resistance Training Specialist® program (RTS®), which after decades of further research has evolved into two relatively advanced courses: the foundation program, RTS123®, and the more extensive RTSM® (mastery) program.
Tom has presented the Biomechanics of Resistance Training at such renowned institutions as the Mayo Clinic, Purdue University, the University of Birmingham in England, the World Trade Center in Tokyo, Japan, and Bisham Abbey National Sports Centre in Buckinghamshire, England.
The RTS® program is not just another certification – it is an essential education in practical application of physics and biomechanics as they relate to human structure and exercise. Because of this, the RTS® program completes the science training that others programmes rarely acknowledge, enabling the exercise and rehabilitation professional to offer a more comprehensive and truly customised approach to helping each individual client.
At Life Activation, Simon and Amanda are two of the very first people in the UK to have been trained in the RTS® program. We feel so strongly about this education that we are helping to bring the RTS® program to the UK, so that wherever anyone lives in the UK, they can gain access to this vital educational experience. If you live outside London, ask us, and we can tell you where you can find exercise professionals trained in the RTS® foundation program.
